Handmade glass matcha bowl with pouring spout

A matcha bowl with a built-in pouring spout is a bowl designed for whisking matcha and pouring it directly into a cup or mug — no second vessel needed. This hand-blown borosilicate glass version has a wide, shallow shape that gives your whisk room to move, and a spout that lets you pour cleanly once your matcha is ready.

We use this bowl daily at our Salamanca Tea Bar when making matcha lattes. The wide opening makes it easy to whisk matcha powder into a smooth paste, and the spout means you can pour it straight into a latte cup over steamed milk. If you make matcha lattes at home, this saves you from trying to pour out of a traditional chawan with no lip.

The leaf-boat shape also works as a glass fairness cup (cha hai or gong dao bei) for gongfu tea. The wide, open mouth helps cool tea quickly before serving, which suits teas where you want to taste clarity rather than trap aroma — think aged white teas, light oolongs, or shou puerh.

Product details

  • Material: borosilicate glass (heat-resistant, handles boiling water)
  • Craft: hand-blown — each piece has subtle individual variations
  • Length: approx. 13 cm
  • Width: approx. 8.5 cm
  • Height: approx. 6–6.5 cm
  • Weight: approx. 75 g
  • Capacity: approx. 120–170 ml (varies by colour)
  • Colour options: Clear / Smoked Dark

The clear version lets you see the colour and texture of your matcha or tea liquor as you pour. The smoked dark version has a muted grey-black tone that looks understated against a wooden tea tray.

This works well for

  • Whisking and pouring matcha lattes at home — whisk in the bowl, pour through the spout
  • A lightweight glass fairness cup for gongfu tea sessions, especially teas that benefit from cooling

Pairs well with

For matcha: a bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) and bamboo matcha spoon (chashaku) are the essentials. Try it with our HIJIRI-NO-SATO Ceremonial Grade Matcha for everyday drinking, or SEIFU Ceremonial Grade Matcha when you want something richer.

For gongfu tea: pour from your teapot or gaiwan into this bowl, then serve into individual cups. Works well alongside our other fairness cups if you like rotating your tea setup.

How to make a matcha latte

  1. Add 2–3 g of matcha powder to the bowl (about one to one and a half chashaku scoops).
  2. Pour in 40–50 ml of water at around 80°C and whisk briskly with a chasen in a W or M motion until smooth and slightly frothy.
  3. Hot matcha latte: pour the whisked matcha through the spout into your cup, then add hot milk and stir.
  4. Iced matcha latte: fill a glass with ice, add cold milk, then pour the whisked matcha over the top.

Care

Rinse with warm water after each use and let it air dry. We don't recommend putting it in the dishwasher — hand washing is gentler on the thin walls. Because each piece is hand-blown, you may notice minor variations in thickness or shape.
