"Sweet Stock" ripe pu-erh brick 2021 huang pian

"Sweet Stock" is a ripe pu erh tea brick pressed from huang pian(黄片) leaves harvested in 2021  in Xigui, Yunnan Province. Huang pian means the mature leaves are used without any buds, which gives this tea its distinctive sweet, smooth character at a price that makes it easy to drink every day.

What you'll taste

This is one of those teas that keeps things simple and does it well. The flavour is gentle and sweet with a leafy, clean quality. There's a natural smoothness that coats the mouth lightly, and the aftertaste is refreshing rather than heavy. I find it settles the stomach nicely after a big meal, which is something ripe pu erh is known for.

Compared to our other ripe pu erh teas like the Fossil Pu-erh or the "The One" Ripe Cake, this one leans lighter and sweeter.

Brewing guide

Thermos steeping (our favourite way)

Use a 1:200 ratio in a tea flask or good thermos. Add about 2.5g to 500ml of boiling water and let it steep for an hour or longer. Top up with hot water when you're halfway through. This method brings out the sweetness and keeps the tea smooth all day.

Western brewing

Use 2.5g per 250ml with 90-100°C water. Steep for 3-5 minutes. Good for up to 3 infusions.

Gongfu brewing

Use 5g per 150ml gaiwan or teapot. Rinse once with hot water to wake the leaves. Steep 30 seconds for the first brew, adding 10 seconds each time. Up to 8 infusions.

Our note

We keep this one at home as my go-to daily pu erh. When we don't want to think about brewing and just want something warm and sweet in my cup, this is what I reach for. The flask method is how I drink it most days. And it's the most affordable way to try ripe pu erh from our range.
