🏆 2025 Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards

Australia's Award-Winning Lavender Ripe Pu Erh Tea

In China, ripe pu erh tea and dried tangerine peel (chenpi) are often enjoyed together—a classic pairing I grew up knowing. When I arrived in Tasmania, I was amazed by how lavender appears everywhere, not just in gardens but woven into local foods and culture.

Following my instincts and experience with traditional tea blending, I felt lavender and ripe pu erh might create something beautiful together. So I began experimenting, sourcing different lavenders from Tasmanian farms and testing them with various pu erh teas from Yunnan. After months of careful blending, this combination emerged—and clearly impressed the judges at the Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards too.

What you'll taste

The rich, earthy foundation of aged ripe pu erh provides a smooth, mellow base that's never harsh or bitter. The Tasmanian lavender weaves through gently—it's not overpowering like some floral teas can be. Instead, it adds this lovely calming layer that seems to relax your shoulders with each sip.

One of our customers described it perfectly: "It's like being wrapped in a warm blanket while walking through a lavender field." Many customers tell me they reach for this award-winning blend when they need to properly unwind after a long day.

Why this blend works so well

The magic happens because ripe pu erh is naturally mellow and digestive, which pairs beautifully with lavender's calming properties. We use only Tasmanian-grown dried lavender flowers—no artificial flavouring—with quality compressed ripe pu erh nuggets from Menghai in Yunnan Province.

This award-winning Australian blend gets better with multiple infusions. You'll notice how the lavender aroma develops differently in each steeping, while the tea maintains its smooth, satisfying depth.

Low caffeine for flexible timing

Because ripe pu erh is naturally lower in caffeine than other teas, you can enjoy this award-winning lavender blend even after lunch or dinner without worrying about sleep. If you're particularly sensitive to caffeine, try starting with afternoon cups to see how it suits you.

My friend purchased this tea on a recent trip to Tasmania and had me try some. I purchased my own that very day. This tea is a hug in a cup. A tea for the soul. The lavender is not overpowring but is there enough to know it is a lavender tea. No matter how long you steep it for, it does not go bitter. My absolute favourite tea i have ever tried.

Very soothing

I'd never thought to combine Puerh with lavender, but this makes for a very soothing flavour combination. The calming lavender and earthy puerh feels very 'Tasmanian'. I'm looking forward to trying more teas here.

An Irresistible Balance of Earthy and Floral: My Favorite Tea!

I’ve tried countless teas, but none compare to this one! The Puerh has a lovely earthy flavor that’s not too overpowering, and the lavender adds the perfect floral touch. I love how the Puerh keeps me alert while the lavender brings a calming effect—it’s the perfect balance!
