Jasmine Dragon Pearls (also called Buddha's Tear / 茉莉龙珠) is a scented green tea from China. Each pearl is hand-rolled from green tea leaves and scented three times with fresh jasmine blossoms, giving it a gentle floral aroma that unfolds slowly as the pearls open in hot water.

How does it taste

The taste is smooth and floral with a light sweetness and a subtle strawberry-like note. The jasmine scent is there but not overpowering — it works with the green tea base rather than covering it. This is one of our regulars' favourites, and a good place to start if you're new to jasmine tea or Chinese green teas.

Brewing instructions

Western brewing:
Use about 8 pearls (1.5g) per 250ml teapot. Water at 85-90°C. Steep for 3 minutes. Good for up to 3 infusions — the flavour changes nicely between each one.

Gongfu brewing:
Use about 20 pearls (4g) per 150ml gaiwan or teapot. Water at 90°C. First steep: 30-40 seconds. Add 10 seconds for each following steep. Good for 5-6 infusions.

Also lovely as a cold brew — the jasmine comes through gently and it's refreshing on warm days. See our cold brew guide.

Joanne's notes

I like watching these pearls unfurl in a glass teapot — it's part of the experience. Customers at our Tea Bar often ask about the strawberry note; it's a natural characteristic of the tea and jasmine combination, not an added flavour.
