What is caffeine-free herbal tea?
Herbal tea (sometimes called tisane) is made from flowers, fruits, herbs, or spices rather than the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Because there are no actual tea leaves involved, herbal teas are naturally caffeine-free, which makes them a good option for evenings, for anyone sensitive to caffeine, or simply when you want something warm without the stimulant.
Our caffeine-free herbal teas come from trusted growers in China and Tasmania. Each one goes through a different process (fermentation, freeze-drying, or ageing) so the flavours are quite varied despite the shared "herbal" label.
What's in this collection
Sweet Rose Dew uses fermented rose petals that give the brew a soft, comforting depth. One of our regulars described it as "so deep yet softly sweet." Freeze Dried Osmanthus Flower Tea keeps the bright, apricot-like aroma of fresh osmanthus through freeze-drying. Aged Mandarin Peel (Chen Pi) 2016 has been aged since 2016 to develop a rich, citrusy sweetness. It's a traditional after-meal choice in Chinese households.
Our Blooming Flower Tea is also available in caffeine-free varieties (Lily, Chrysanthemum, and Mixed Flower). These are hand-tied flower balls made purely from dried blossoms with no tea leaves. Note that some blooming tea varieties do contain green or black tea leaves and have light caffeine, so check the variant when ordering. The gift box ($36) includes three pure blossom and three tea-with-flower varieties.
If you don't mind a small amount of caffeine, our low caffeine collection has white teas and aged pu-erh. For more evening-friendly choices, browse our evening tea and sleep and calm collections.
I often reach for Sweet Rose Dew or Chen Pi after dinner when I want something soothing without worrying about sleep. Brewing instructions come with every order, and you're welcome to get in touch if you'd like help choosing.
