A Cup of Tea in the Afternoon

16 products

Afternoon tea refers to loose leaf teas with low to medium caffeine, selected to provide a gentle lift during the mid-afternoon hours. White teas and ripe pu-erh are particularly well-suited for afternoon drinking: white tea offers delicate sweetness, while pu-erh gives a smooth, grounding cup after lunch.

Ever noticed how that 3 o'clock feeling creeps in just when you need your focus most? I certainly have. That's why I've put together this collection of afternoon teas. They're gentle and flavourful, with a softer caffeine profile than matcha or black tea.

What to try for your afternoon break

For white tea lovers, Aged White Tea 2012 (Lao Bai Cha) has developed herbaceous notes with honey sweetness over a decade of ageing. Gardenia White Tea has a subtle floral character that makes a good mid-afternoon reset.

If you lean towards pu-erh, our Tasmanian Lavender Puerh, awarded at the 2025 Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards, combines earthy Menghai ripe pu-erh with locally grown Tasmanian lavender. Mandarin Pu-erh pairs citrus brightness with earthy depth for a balanced mid-day brew.

Many of our Tea Bar regulars use afternoon tea as a gentler alternative to another coffee. If you're curious, our Afternoon Break Teas Sampler Pack ($25) is a good way to try a few before committing to a full pouch.
