What is blooming flower tea?
Blooming flower tea is a hand-tied tea ball that unfurls into a flower shape when you pour hot water over it. Artisans sew dried flowers (and sometimes tea leaves) into a tight ball using cotton thread. Each one takes about three minutes to open fully. As one visitor to our Tea Bar put it, it's "a magic moment when seeing the flower blooming in the tea pot."
Two types of blooming tea
Our Blooming Flower Tea ($7 each) comes in two categories. Pure blossom varieties (Lily, Chrysanthemum, Mixed Flower) are made from dried flowers only, with no tea leaves and no caffeine. The flavour is light and gentle. You can divide one ball into thirds for a lighter brew.
Tea-with-flower varieties (Carnation + Green Tea, Jasmine + Chrysanthemum + Green Tea, Lily + Black Tea, Chrysanthemum + Black Tea) combine flowers with green or black tea leaves. These have a slightly fuller taste and light caffeine. Brew one whole ball in 400ml of 90°C water for about 3 minutes, and you'll get 2-3 infusions.
A glass teapot or clear vessel makes the biggest difference here, since the bloom is half the experience.
Gift options
The Blooming Flower Tea Gift Box ($36) includes three pure blossoms and three tea-with-flower varieties, ready for gifting. Our Blooming Flower Tea Hamper ($90) adds a glass teapot, cup, bamboo coaster, and welcome guide. If you already have a teapot and just want one designed for blooming teas, the 700ml Glass Teapot ($75) has a wide body so the flowers have room to open fully.

Frequently asked questions
Is blooming flower tea caffeine-free?
It depends on the variety. Pure blossom types (Lily, Chrysanthemum, Mixed Flower) are made from flowers only, with no caffeine. Tea-with-flower types (such as Jasmine + Green Tea or Lily + Black Tea) include tea leaves, so they carry light caffeine.
How do you brew blooming flower tea?
Pour 90°C water over one ball in about 400ml and give it around 3 minutes to open. Tea-with-flower balls give 2-3 infusions. A wide, clear vessel shows the bloom best.
Which blooming tea gift should I choose?
The Gift Box ($36) has six blooms — three pure blossom and three tea-with-flower. The Hamper ($90) adds a glass teapot, cup, bamboo coaster and guide for a complete gift. If they already own a teapot, the 700ml glass teapot pairs well on its own.
Do you need a special teapot for blooming tea?
It isn't essential, but a clear, wide vessel makes the bloom visible, which is half the experience. Our 700ml glass teapot gives the flower room to open fully.
Do you ship blooming tea gifts in Australia?
Yes. We ship Australia-wide from Hobart, and gift boxes arrive ready to give.
