A gongdao cup (also called a fairness cup or cha hai) is the jug you pour tea into after steeping, before serving it into individual cups. It evens out the brew so everyone gets the same strength of tea — that's where the "fairness" name comes from.

This 150ml glass gongdao cup has a petal-shaped rim and a handleless design. The glass lets you see the colour of the tea before you pour, which is helpful for judging brew strength.

Product details

  • Capacity: 150ml
  • Material: Heat-resistant glass
  • Style: Handleless, petal-shaped rim

This works well for

  • Pairing with a gaiwan or small Yixing teapot for gongfu brewing
  • Solo sessions — pour from gaiwan into the gongdao cup, then sip directly
  • Anyone setting up a gongfu tea tray

All our gongdao cups are tested to make sure the pour is smooth and drip-free. The 150ml size matches well with 150ml gaiwans and teapots.

Joanne's tip

A lot of people skip the gongdao cup when they first start gongfu brewing, but it makes a real difference. Without one, the first cup you pour will be weaker than the last, because the tea keeps steeping as you pour. The gongdao cup catches the full brew at once, so every cup tastes the same.

Care

Rinse with hot water after each use. Glass doesn't absorb flavour, so you can use it with any tea. Hand wash for best results.
