Chrysanthemum hand-painted porcelain tea cup, 60ml

This chrysanthemum tea cup is a small footed porcelain cup for gongfu tea, holding 60 ml, with a single green chrysanthemum painted by hand under a pale celadon glaze. It is made in Dehua, Fujian, from high white porcelain.

The rim is scalloped like the edge of a petal and the cup stands on a short raised foot, so it is easy to pick up from the table without touching the bowl. The flower sits on one side only, which we rather like: turn the cup and it is plain celadon, turn it back and there is the chrysanthemum.

It matches the chrysanthemum teapot in the same series, but it is sold on its own, so you can buy one as a master cup or a few for guests.

Product details

  • Capacity: 60 ml
  • Width: 6.4 cm
  • Height: 4.5 cm
  • Weight: about 100 g
  • Material: high white porcelain, underglaze hand-painted
  • Origin: Dehua, Fujian, China

This works well for

  • Green and white tea, where a thin porcelain cup shows the colour of the liquor
  • Gongfu sessions with a gaiwan or small teapot
  • A small, light gift that fits in a card-sized box

If you are in Hobart, it is on the shelf at our Salamanca Tea Bar, so you can pick it up and have a look before you decide.

Care

Rinse with hot water before first use. Hand wash with warm water and a soft cloth. The painted pattern sits under the glaze, so it will not scratch off in normal use, but we would still keep it out of the dishwasher and microwave.

Shipping

Ships from Hobart, Tasmania. Free shipping on orders over $95 Australia-wide. Each piece is wrapped and boxed with padding.
