Black clay teapot stand with gold flecks, 15.5cm

This teapot stand is a shallow stoneware dish, 15.5 cm across and 3.8 cm tall, in matte black clay with gold flecks around the rim and a crackled white glaze in the centre where the pot sits. In Chinese it is a hucheng, the dish that holds the teapot at a gongfu table and catches the water you pour over it.

The outside and rim are the same rough black clay as the matching gourd teapot, with the same scattered gold patches. The white centre is glazed, so water pools there and wipes out easily. The dish is made in Dehua, Fujian, and each one is finished by hand, so the gold lands differently on each.

It fits any small teapot up to roughly 10 cm at the base. It also works as a small dish for tea snacks when it is not holding a pot. Sold on its own; the teapot in the photos is listed separately.
