Recommended Uses:

  • Preparing traditional Usucha (thin matcha)
  • Blending Koicha (thick matcha)
  • Creating smooth matcha lattes

Overview: Traditional bamboo matcha whisks (chasen) are handcrafted using centuries-old techniques for optimal matcha preparation.

Description: Each chasen is carved from a single piece of bamboo and features 100 prongs designed to effectively aerate matcha powder in water. The fine tines create the characteristic microfoam essential for authentic matcha texture while preventing clumping.

Technical Specifications:

  • Material Options: White Bamboo (Bai) or Purple Bamboo (Murasaki)
  • Prong Count: 100
  • Construction: Hand-split from single bamboo piece
  • Characteristics:
    • White Bamboo: Lighter with more flexible tines, suitable for casual use
    • Purple Bamboo: Denser structure with greater resilience, more resistant to breakage and better suited for regular preparation

Usage Instructions:

  1. Before first use, soak the whisk in warm water for 1-2 minutes
  2. Hold the handle between your thumb and two fingers
  3. Whisk matcha using a quick "W" or "M" motion (not circular)
  4. Whisk at a 45° angle for optimal aeration

Care Instructions: Rinse with warm water only—no soap or detergents. Ideally store on a whisk holder (kusenaoshi) after use to maintain prong shape. If a holder is unavailable, rinse thoroughly and place upside down to dry completely. Replace every 3-6 months with regular use.
