The Pine is a 200ml Yixing teapot crafted from Jiangpo clay, featuring hand-carved pine tree detailing. In Chinese culture, the pine tree represents longevity and steadiness — a fitting motif for a teapot that's meant to last decades with daily use.

Product details

  • Capacity: 200ml
  • Clay type: Jiangpo clay (Yixing zisha)
  • Craftsmanship: Hand-carved pine tree motif
  • Origin: Yixing, Jiangsu Province, China

Jiangpo clay has a fine, dense texture that heats evenly and retains warmth well. Like all Yixing teapots, it's unglazed — the clay absorbs flavour over time, so you'll want to choose one type of tea and stick with it.

This works well for

  • Gongfu brewing of high mountain oolongs or ripe puerh
  • Daily use — the 200ml size suits one or two people
  • Anyone building a Yixing collection who wants variety in clay types

Joanne's tip

If you already have one Yixing teapot dedicated to dark teas, this one pairs well with lighter oolongs. The Jiangpo clay has a slightly different character to the standard purple clay — it's a bit more refined, and I find it suits teas like Alishan oolong where you want to taste the subtlety of the leaf.

Seasoning your new Yixing teapot

Before first use, season the teapot to open the clay's pores:

  1. Rinse with warm water — lid, spout, and body
  2. Submerge in a pot of water (place a cloth underneath) and simmer for 30-60 minutes
  3. Brew a strong batch of the tea you'll dedicate this pot to
  4. Fill the teapot with the brewed tea and soak for at least 24 hours
  5. Rinse with warm water and air dry

Never use soap on unglazed clay. Rinse with hot water after each session.
