Peach black tea

Peach Black Tea is a Chinese black tea with a natural peach-like aroma and flavour. There's no added fruit or flavouring — the peachy character comes from the Golden Peony cultivar and how the leaves are processed. It's one of those teas that surprises people when they learn there's nothing in the packet except tea leaves.

The taste is light and fruity, with notes of peach, rose, and honeydew melon. It's sweet without being sugary, and it brews up clean with no bitterness. One of our customers described it well: "peachy without being too heavy or overly sweet" — and it works just as well as an iced tea in summer as it does hot.

If you're used to commercial peach-flavoured teas, this is quite different. Those tend to use artificial peach flavouring added to a base tea. This one gets its character naturally from the cultivar and the way the leaves are oxidised. The result is subtler and more layered.

Brewing guide

Western style: Use 2g per 250ml with 85–90°C water. Steep 3 minutes. Good for 2 infusions.

Gongfu style: Use 4g per 150ml gaiwan or teapot. Pre-warm the vessel. Brew with 90°C water, 20 seconds for the first infusion, adding 10 seconds each time. You can get 5–6 infusions.

Cold brew: This tea makes a refreshing cold brew — check our cold brew guide for instructions.

About naturally scented teas

Several Chinese tea cultivars produce natural fruit or floral aromas without any added ingredients. The Golden Peony cultivar used in this tea is one example. The aroma develops during oxidation and varies with each harvest. See our black tea collection for more options from Fujian and Yunnan.

Joanne's tip

I keep a batch of this cold-brewed in the fridge during summer — it makes a naturally sweet iced tea without needing any sweetener. It's also a good tea for people who are curious about loose-leaf but find straight black tea too plain. The peach aroma catches your attention, and the tea itself is very easy to brew.
