Crystal stone tea infuser ball

This crystal stone tea infuser ball is a stainless steel mesh ball on a fine chain with a piece of raw crystal at the other end, for brewing loose-leaf tea in a mug. The leaf goes in the ball, the ball goes in the cup, and the stone sits outside on the rim as a counterweight. When the tea is ready you lift the stone and the ball comes up with it, so there's no fishing in hot water for a chain.

The stone is the part people pick it up for. Each one is a natural offcut, not cut, tumbled or polished, so every piece has its own shape and the colour runs lighter or darker from one to the next. Amethyst, rose quartz, clear quartz, smoky quartz and amazonite have all passed through the shop, and the mix changes with each batch. The one you receive won't match the photograph exactly. If you'd like a particular stone, message us before you order and we'll tell you what's on the shelf.

The ball itself is 5cm across in 304 stainless steel with a fine mesh. The two halves hinge apart and close with a small catch, and the chain is long enough to hang over a mug or a small pot.

Product details

  • Infuser: 304 stainless steel mesh ball, 5cm diameter
  • Stone: natural raw crystal, 3 to 4cm, one per infuser
  • Weight: 60 to 80g in total
  • Packaging: clear storage box, 11 x 9 x 2.8cm

This works well for

  • A mug of black tea, herbal blend or flower tea at a desk
  • Smaller-leaf teas and chopped fruit blends, which a ball this size holds well
  • A small gift under $25 that isn't a tin of tea
  • Someone who likes the stone as much as the tea

One thing to know before you buy: big twisted oolongs and whole-leaf white teas need more room to open than a ball this size gives them, and you'll get a thin cup. For those, a basket strainer works better. The infuser balls are in a tray at our Salamanca Tea Bar in Hobart if you'd like to pick your own stone.

Care

Rinse the ball with hot water after use and let it dry open, or the mesh holds a stale note. Hand wash only. Don't leave the stone sitting in water, and keep the whole thing out of the dishwasher.

Shipping

Ships from Hobart, Tasmania. Free shipping on orders over $95 Australia-wide. It travels in its clear storage box, padded inside the parcel.
