White lily rustic clay tea cup, 70ml

This white lily cup is a 70 ml stoneware tea cup in a dark, speckled black glaze, with a single white lily painted by hand across one side. The body curves in at the rim and sits on a raised foot. It is made in Dehua, Fujian, in coarse clay, so the surface has a bit of grit under the glaze.

The lily is painted in thick white slip with green stamens and small orange dots, and because it is done by hand each flower leans a little differently. The dark glaze makes the white stand out and also hides tea stains, which is practical for a cup that gets daily use.

The slightly narrowed mouth keeps the aroma in the cup, so it suits oolong and black tea. It is sold on its own, not with the saucer or the matching pieces shown in some photos.
