Sleepy cat chopstick rest and dip dish, handmade ceramic, 10 cm

This sleepy cat chopstick rest is a small handmade ceramic cat lying on its back, 10 cm nose to tail, with a shallow hollow in its belly. Rest a pair of chopsticks or a teaspoon across it, or fill the hollow with soy sauce, chilli oil or a spoon of jam. It's been on the counter at our Tea Bar for over a year now, next to the tea pets, holding the wet end of a tea scoop.

The cat has a big black nose, closed eyes and a tail that curls up at one end. The body is a warm off-white with a matte, slightly sandy glaze that feels like an eggshell. Each one is shaped and painted by hand in Jingdezhen, so noses and whiskers differ a little from cat to cat.
