Rattan handle clay boiling teapot, 420ml

This boiling teapot is a 420 ml clay pot with an overhead handle wrapped in dark rattan, made for simmering tea over a flame or an electric ceramic hob rather than steeping it. The body is a warm terracotta red with a matte, slightly grainy surface, a flat lid with a small knob, and a short straight spout.

Boiling tea, zhu cha, is how older teas are often made in winter: a few grams of aged white tea, ripe pu-erh or black tea go in with water and the pot sits over a low heat until the tea is dark and sweet. The rattan handle stays cool enough to lift the pot off the heat, and three holes at the base of the spout hold the leaves back as you pour.

It is made for an alcohol burner, an electric ceramic hob or a charcoal stove. Clay does not work on induction. Heat it gently and never put a hot pot down on a cold, wet surface.
