Mini folding screen for the tea table, lacquered wood, double-sided

This mini folding screen is a small tabletop screen designed to stand behind a teapot and cups and give the setting a backdrop. It's decorative rather than a brewing tool: wooden panels with a glossy black lacquer finish, joined by small metal hinges so it folds flat when you put it away.

Each side carries a different printed design, so one screen gives you two looks depending on which way you turn it. Stand it up behind a gaiwan or a small pot, or open it out flat on the table and set the cups on it like a mat.

Two patterns, each with a front and a reverse

Gold Meadow (five panels). Front: autumn grasses and wildflowers over a gold ground, with bands of dark green cloud. Reverse: a mountain scene with pines, a stream, a few small figures and a saddled horse. Warm and painterly, and it sits well with white porcelain or pale clay.

Black Bamboo (six panels). Front: bamboo in gold and silver on black lacquer. Reverse: pink and white blossoms with a small bird and a butterfly, also on black. Cooler and sharper than the gold one. It suits dark stoneware and glass.

The photos follow the same order. For each pattern you see the front first, then the reverse, then the screen lying flat, folded or in its box.

Each screen comes in a red gift box with a ribbon tie, so it's ready to give as it is.

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Keep it away from water and direct sun, and don't set a hot teapot straight onto the lacquer. The hinges are small, so fold it gently rather than forcing the panels.
