Natural citrus teas - Orange tea collection
The real difference you can taste
When customers ask me about orange tea, I know they're probably thinking of those flavoured tea bags from the supermarket. But Chinese tea culture offers something completely different – teas that get their citrus character from real mandarin peels, not artificial flavouring.
Artificially flavoured teas often smell quite strong and obvious when you open the packet. But after drinking them, that taste disappears quickly from your mouth – the flavouring is really just for the initial aroma.
Traditional natural citrus teas work differently. The scent might be gentler, more subtle, but when you drink them, they're incredibly smooth. The taste stays with you, lingering pleasantly in your mouth long after you've finished your cup. It's like a good whisky or fine wine – that satisfying finish that keeps revealing new notes.
I see this discovery happen daily at our tea bar. Someone takes their first sip of traditional citrus tea, and their expression changes. That's the moment they experience what natural mandarin peel actually offers – not just aroma, but depth and lasting satisfaction that artificial orange simply can't replicate.
These aren't teas with orange flavouring added. They're traditional preparations where mandarin peel and tea have been paired for centuries, each bringing out the best in the other. The result is something that artificial orange simply can't replicate.

Why natural citrus matters
Real complexity: Natural mandarin peels develop layers of flavour as they age – sweet, aromatic, sometimes floral, with gentle bitter notes that create balance rather than compete.
Traditional wellness: Chinese tea culture has valued aged citrus peels for digestive support and their natural vitamin C content. The aging process actually concentrates beneficial compounds.
Multiple infusions: Unlike flavoured tea bags that lose their punch after one brewing, these teas reward multiple steepings as the mandarin slowly releases its complexity.
Three ways to experience natural citrus tea
Tea Type | What It Is | Taste Profile | Best For |
---|---|---|---|
Chen Pi (Aged Mandarin Peel) | 9-year aged dried mandarin peels | Sweet, aromatic, honey-like | Evening relaxation, digestive support, caffeine-free option |
Mandarin Pu-erh | Whole mandarin filled with aged pu-erh | Rich, earthy, brightened by citrus | Substantial afternoon tea, pu-erh newcomers |
Rose Mandarin White | White tea blend with aged peel & rose | Light, floral, gentle citrus | Delicate flavours, special occasions |
Chen Pi - Pure citrus tradition

This is aged mandarin peel at its finest. Our 2016 Xinhui Chen Pi has been carefully aged for nine years, transforming from bitter fresh peel into something remarkably sweet and complex. It's 100% citrus – no tea leaves at all – making it naturally caffeine-free.
The beauty of well-aged Chen Pi is its versatility. You can brew it traditionally, or simply add pieces to a thermos flask with hot water and sip throughout the day, topping up with more water as needed. Some customers even simmer it gently – our aged peel has no bitterness, so it only gets sweeter and more aromatic.
Many customers reach for Chen Pi when they want something substantial but won't keep them awake. The aging process creates honey-like sweetness with warm, aromatic notes that support digestion naturally.
Mandarin pu-erh - The complete experience

Chinese craftsmanship at its best. Master tea makers hollow out small Xinhui mandarins, fill them with premium aged pu-erh, then dry the entire fruit. You brew the whole piece – citrus peel and tea together.
The citrus perfectly balances pu-erh's sometimes intense earthiness, making this an ideal introduction for newcomers to pu-erh tea. One piece of our Mandarin Pu-erh gives you multiple satisfying cups as the mandarin slowly releases its natural sweetness and complexity.
Rose mandarin white - Elegant simplicity

Our own creation combines delicate aged white tea with mandarin peel and rose petals. Everything harmonises – the rose adds floral elegance, the mandarin provides brightness, and the white tea carries both with gentle sophistication.
This Rose Mandarin White blend offers the most delicate introduction to citrus teas, perfect when you want something special but not overwhelming.
Which one should you choose?
New to citrus teas? Start with Chen Pi. This pure citrus experience lets you taste exactly what aged mandarin peel offers without other flavours competing for attention.
Love rich, grounding teas? Choose Mandarin Pu-erh. The citrus makes pu-erh more approachable while adding its own bright character.
Prefer light, nuanced flavours? Rose Mandarin White offers gentle complexity that won't overwhelm sensitive palates.
Want to explore thoughtfully? Our Evening Sample Pack includes Chen Pi alongside other caffeine-free options, perfect for discovering your preferences.
