Frequently asked questions
Is your matcha actually from Japan?
Yes. Our matcha drinks use Japanese matcha from Shizuoka and Uji. The lattes use Shizuoka matcha selected for milk drinks, and the pure matcha bowls use Uji ceremonial matcha.
Which matcha should I order first?
Start with the matcha latte if you want something soft and milky. Choose strawberry matcha if you like fruit and tea together. Choose Hijiri-no-Sato if you want your first bowl of straight Uji matcha.
Is matcha bitter?
We whisk the matcha first, so the tea stays smooth rather than powdery. Matcha lattes are balanced with milk and vanilla syrup. Pure matcha bowls are unsweetened; they can taste a little bitter if you are new to straight matcha, but the umami and natural sweet finish are clearer.
Do you serve iced matcha all year?
Yes. Ask for hot or iced when you order.
Can I get matcha to take away?
Yes. Matcha lattes and strawberry matcha can be made to take away. Pure matcha is served in a tea bowl and is for drinking in the tea bar only.
Does matcha contain caffeine?
Yes. Matcha is green tea powder and is naturally higher in caffeine. If you are caffeine-sensitive, try hojicha instead; our hojicha latte has relatively lower caffeine and can be served hot or iced.
